GOHARSHAD MOSQUE
- The Grand Goharshad Mosque with its tall turquoise dome and cavernous golden portal is the largest four- terraced mosque in Iran.
- The construction of the building was ordered by Goharshad Agha, wife of Shahrokh Timuri. The architect was Ostad Ghavamaldin Shirazi who also built the mosque, monastery and Goharshad school in Harat (presently Afghanistan). This mosque is the best preserved.
- Was built in 1398-1401 AD.
- Consists of 4 terraces on four sides of its court, the biggest terrace is Maghsoreh Terrace towards Ghebleh (Kaba) with a portal of 27m (89 feet) high, a dome and two minarets.
- There are writings in Sols form on the front. There is a mosaic tile altar with cornices and pulpit with fretwork. A sun dial was used to tell prayer time. In addition to decorative aspect, there is a spiritual feeling to this place.
