Kashan

Borujerdi House

  • This is used to be a private home but now is open to public as a museum. This house was built in the early 19th century (about 130 years ago) by a famous merchant named Haj Seyed Jafar Borujerdi from Natanz. He conducted business in Borujerd in Lurestan Province and in Kashan as well.

  • The completion of this building required 18 years of work and many workers, masterpainters, and architects.


  • The entrance to the building is from an octagonal vestibule with a multilateral skylights in the ceiling. Near the entrance is a five-door chamber with intricate plasterwork.


  • After the visitor passes through the narrow corridor, a vast rectangular courtyard opens up.

  • This museum is arranged with four sides, for reception, ceremonies, residential halls and rooms.


  • This museum or house is popular for its unusual wind towers (bad girs) which helps cool the house. Materials used are, stone, brick, sun baked bricks and a composition of clay, straw and mortar. There are paintings by Kamal Ol Molk Ghaffari, a famous Iranian painter.
