Takht-e Soleiman

  • In this part of Iran, it is worth to visit Takht-e Soleiman (Solomon's Throne) which is an important archaeological site. Takht-e Soleiman is in remote area so you can base yourself in Town of Takab and take a minibus to the ruins.


Suburbs of Takab in West Azarbaijan

  • The walls and the remains of 38 towers are built around a crater lake which approximately dates back to 3rd century AD. The wall and towers are still intact and standing.

  • Among the remains, there are the ruins of a Sassanian palace and the fire temple. One of the three most sacred fires of Zoroastrians was kept in this temple and it was a religious center for Sassanians.

  • The entrance has a stone gate with Kufic inscriptions.

  • On the west of this ruins is the mountain, Zendan-e Soleiman (Solomon Prison) which from the top can see gorgeous views of the countryside. Inside some caves, there has been findings from 1000 years ago.
