Asian Art Museum
Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, California
Sponsored by the Persian Center, Berkeley California, and the Asian Art Musuem.

The Asian Art Museum attracts visitors from all over the world, especially tourists coming to San Francisco. The visitors to the museum that day, both Persian and non-Persian were treated to a variety of events to promote the understanding of the ancient Persian New Year called Noruz (also spelled Norous, Noroos, etc).

The program started with the story of Noruz, told in a dramatic version by members of the Iranian community.

Continuous activities for children included making a Haft-sin table and the coloring of Noruz eggs.

Music plays an important role in Noruz. Persian New Year is a time when traditional poetry is sung. Hafez Modirzadeh and Jamsheed Agahi played contemporary plus original classical Persian music on traditional Persian instruments.

The program ended with dances by Ballet Afsaneh.
